    Al Franken: Thug

I promised myself that I’d try not to use pictures in my blog, because they tend to detract from the journals, but this was too much to bear. It just proves that Al Franken will use whatever tactics to get himself exposed in America…and rich.

This QuickTime is a video sales pitch from Amazon.com that shows Al with 3 fictional Amazon users who have read Al’s latest book “The Truth (with jokes).” The 3 are presumed to be giving testimonials to Al as to how they rated the book on Amazon’s website. It is assumed that the first 2 people doing the testimonial have nothing but high praise for the book. The video picks up with Al asking the final person what he felt about the book. We find out that this person is a “conservative”, and that he states to all how he rated it low and badmouthing the book without reading it on the site.

Al then proceeds to kick the “conservative” in the groin, and then smashes a stool over his back when he is doubled over.

Now Al Franken has been known in the past in his writings and antics to be irreverent and off the reservation, but this is indeed a step over the line in self promotion.

Whether or not the beaten actor was portrayed to be the most hated of Internet posters, the “Web troll”, is immaterial. The fact of the matter is that Al Franken wished to convey a portrait of beating up political enemies as being an acceptable practice. While theatrical, it is unnerving that Al uses images of felonious violence to promote himself for financial gain. This should be about as funny to normal human beings as watching Rodney King being beaten up, or watching Gestapo agents punish poor Jews in the streets. Then again, with Al Franken, nothing surprises me.

Thanks to Michelle Malkin, with help from her staff member, Mark Jaquith.

K... We are driving a bit off topic now, but Nova, if you say that Dittohead are intellectually lazy, can't I also say that Moonbats are equally lazy, or are they just thoughtfully drumming the same monotonous calls at their rallies. So far as of yet I have yet to see a thoughtful idea amoungst all the zombies in various leftist rallies throughout the country, whether it be the Million (snicker) More Movement, or the numerous peace rallies Westlake Center. All I hear is the same tired, discredited arguments over and over, followed by the fanatical cheers. That is not intellectual debate, that is monotony.

And as for slapstick, their is the playful slap and eyegouge that the Three Stooges were famous for, then there is the beating senseless of someone to the point of unconsiousness that he or she has no repect for. Has our society progressed to where that is supposed to be funny? Call me old fashion, but I defy that thought.

The earth's age? 4.6 billion. But I've heard it may be even older. Regardless of that fact, it does not invalidate faith. Move on please.

If the day comes that America has to fight again, as long as the government has shown tremendous proof that was put out by our intelligence and many of our allies, as it IS in the Iraq War, I'll be on the opposite corner, opposing you. But from the tone in your voice, it doesn't sound as if you would be willing to analyze the facts to make that judgement. It sounds as if you would immediately oppose any preemptive security measure. Go ahead and wait for your Pearl Harbor. I have better things to do with my life.

Hell, I would have mock-raged against Harriet Miers, if it would have helped the chance of her being nominated. I was pulling for her, myself, 'cause I think she really was the next Souter. I think Harry Reid being the first Senator to support her, on day #2 I think it was, was the first nail in the coffin.
As for Iraq, I just say next time, we should probably be a bit smarter. This being America, there will definitely be a next time. You'll find me in the streets trying my darnest to prevent it.
The term dittohead seems to equate to some certain intellectual laziness common to human beings, which is the fundamental issue I have with democracy. That's for a longer discussion, at a more appropriate time.

    Nova,

First of all, let me say I have NO problem answering a direct question, ask away. Now then, scientific method has proved the earth to be 4.6 billion years old, hasn't it? How can one argue with that? <ducking into foxhole>
    ;)

Iraq? You really want to open THAT can of worms? I respect you Nova...I know it might not seem that way sometimes, but I really do. In that regard, you REALLY don't want to go there with me. For the sake of everyone's sanity.

I know dittoheads use the term in self-effacing endearment, it was the way you used it, "chuckleheads, er dittoheads" seemed a jab to me. Not to mention the 'headnodders" comment. <shrug>

As for the lefties in the Senate...there are several Republicans that are very left leaning. Why do you think Bush felt he had to nominate someone like Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court?

As for whether my comments were stereotyping conservatives,.... huh? Rush listeners call themselves dittoheads; referring to self-given names is not stereotyping. Personally the term itself strikes me as self-effacing rather than pride-inducing.
As for Minnesota, it'll be up to them in 2008. Pertaining to stark-raving lunatics in Congress, I think it'd be nice if there were a few lefty ones to lend balance to the ones on the right. Thune, Stevens, et al. Indeed, there is no shortage of angry white men.
It's only certain conservatives I have a problem with, and they tend to share certain characteristics. And those are characteristics that I don't like, and that I poke fun at. That's one of the reasons I ask questions here and participate in a dialogue. I want to discuss ideas, and challenge people to defend their beliefs in what I wish would one day approach dialectic. I know that not every Rep. likes Rush, just as not every Dem likes Al. Not every Bush voter believes the world is 6000 years old either, I just wish so many with power on the right didn't believe it. I'd like to think that the act of governing necessitates a certain itellectual rigor that fundamentalism lacks/disregards/disavows/forbids.

And thank you BK for being forthright about slapstick. Balk doesn't often like to answer my direct questions. Like here's another one. How old is the world? 6000 years or 4.6 billions years?

    ROFL!!!

Al Franken will be the junior senator from Minnesota three years from now?!? Thats supposed to vindicate this tirade of his, that (in my opinion) has gotten WAAAAY too much attention in this space???? Well, all I can say about that is, if Al Franken IS the junior senator from Minnesota, then they'll get what they deserve. IF, however, he has another crackup, as he is prone to do, then I suspect there will be someone else representing the citizens or Minn-e-sooooo-tah.
    ;)

Remember that I never said I didn't enjoy some violent forms of humour. I laughed my @$$ off during Pulp Fiction (first example that comes to mind) Nova, but I apparently have to dispell every sterotype you hold about conservatives every time I post.

As for liberalism being dead, I woudn't go that far. I would say that the democratic party is in its death throes, and its the extreme left-wing of that party is putting it there. Just my opinion.

Alas, American liberalism is dead. We don't have killer radio stations. It's a shame there aren't enough chuckle-heads... er, ditto-heads to swell the ratings. Liberalism may just not have a large constituency of head-nodders.
Enjoy your Schadenfreude now; Al Franken will still be the junior senator from Minnesota in 3 years.
And I thought watching Stuart get beat up was kinda funny. Care to answer, though?

Have you ever found slapstick funny, Mr. Highbrow humor?

And personally, I kinda like having a vicious streak. Enjoying "felonious violence" lets me have more in common with the "criminal base" of the left-wing! :)

Odd, Larry, that you think I wanted to quash selling his book. I could careless about what he is peddling, as I have no interest in it what-so-ever. I would just wished he wouldn't have to use a criminal acts as advertisements. As for kicking him off the air, unless he plans on taking money from little kids again to prop up his broadcasting company, its the general public that are kicking him off the air. You might want to look at his sad ratings lately to know that his days on the air are numbered. Gotta love the free market :)

Nova: You think that these skits of he or anyone else on SNL were Al Franken's or SNL's shining moments? Hardly. As Al was a head writer on the show, it just shows his propencity to use felonious violence to get a laugh. What's next for him? Sexual battery? Just remember that Al does have a rather vicious streak in him that has been widely seen.

I think that Franken only made obvious what many of my fellow liberals have come to embrace.
That violence is the only way out of this predicament America finds itself in. And when the time comes, just make sure you don't find yourself blindfolded, back to the wall.
    REVOLUTION!!!
    Tee hee.
So moving on (BK, that was sarcasm...) to clear the air, remember that Al Franken has a background in comedy, and as such, he understands that many in an audience find slapstick funny. Playing the part of Stuart Smalley in Daily Affirmation, he wrote 2 skits I remember where he got beat up on camera. Would you allow him any latitude using violence for comedy's sake? Cause I'm pretty sure that you, sometime in your life, have found violence funny. And funny commercials are often the most successful at promotion. I don't work in marketting, but nevertheless I think I sense some type of logic here.
